Silverchair opened the concert, with popular frontman Daniel Johns telling the sold-out arena that it was a pleasure to be back in Perth. Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning later hailed the Perth crowd “by far the biggest and loudest” of the tour to date. See Monday’s edition of The West Australian for the full report on the Perth leg of the Across the Great Divide concert. |

Journal

AUSTRALIAN music's dynamic double act rocked Bendigo on Saturday night in one of the biggest live performances in the city's history.
About 7500 people packed the Prince of Wales Showgrounds on Saturday night to see Powderchair, the combined act of two of Australia's highest-profile rock bands, Powderfinger and Silverchair.
Police and gig organisers yesterday reported exemplary crowd behaviour on big-time rock's return to the city.
Powderchair promoter Angie Vaughan said the bands had played a rare encore gig together as a sign of their appreciation for the Bendigo crowd.
"They (the bands) were on a great high last night - they really enjoyed themselves," she said.
"This is the only outdoor Victorian show we're they've done the combo encore with the two bands together. `
`They didn't do it in Mildura, they didn't do it in Wodonga, but they did it in Bendigo.
"That's something they don't plan, it's one |

Zoo's love hate list
Journal

Australian girlie magazine Zoo Weekly has released its annual list of the people we love to hate, with Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns taking out the number one spot.
Editors at the mag say it's a difficult job, starting with a list of several hundred before cutting it down to a top 50. 2Day FM's Kyle Sandilands topped last year's list, but it seems we've grown to hate him a little bit less; he narrowly makes the new list in 50th position. And of course, the list wouldn't be the same without the odd politician here and there: George W Bush, Peter Garrett, Peter Costello and Kevin Andrews make the list. But it seems even a new album hasn't stopped the magazine taking out its wrath on the Chair's Daniel Johns, |

Tuned in ... Daniel Johns and Bernard Fanning on stage last night. TWO of Australia's biggest rock bands joined forces on stage in Sydney last night, as part of a national tour that will take in nearly a quarter of a million fans. Silverchair and Powderfinger played the first Sydney show on their Across the Great Divide tour at Acer Arena at Olympic Park. More than 40,000 Sydney fans were due to see the bands over two nights, with Silverchair and Powderfinger playing separate sets before joining forces for a grand rock'n'roll finale. Daniel Johns and Bernard Fanning sang together on a cover version of Substitute by the Who. Silverchair were first on the double bill, performing songs off their new album Young Modern, plus classic hits ranging from Without You and Ana's Song to their |

Silverchair's triumphant return to steel city
Journal
2 yrs 3 mos ago
"LAST time we played here, no one liked us very much," joked Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns.
Quality opener: Daniel Johns out front of Silverchair as the band's joint tour with Powderfinger kicked off in Newcastle last night The singer had no such concerns when Silverchair made a triumphant return to their native Newcastle last night. The Newcastle rockers rarely take second place to anyone, particularly in their home town, but they bowed to age, rather than experience as their older collaborators, Powderfinger, closed the show at the beginning of their joint tour last night. The crowd of more than 7000 at Newcastle Entertainment Centre was more concerned with the quality of this rare double bill than its running order. In fact, the Newcastle trio will |
