UK bands dominate Kerrang! race

Hertfordshire metal band Enter Shikari and US rock group My Chemical Romance lead the field at this year's Kerrang! awards with four nominations apiece.
Both bands are up for best single and album, while My Chemical Romance is also in the running for best video and best international band. Enter Shikari, shortlisted for best British newcomer last year, are up for best live band and best British band. The St Albans-based outfit said it was "great to be nominated again". "Hopefully this time we won't have a show and can actually make the awards," said singer 'Rou' Reynolds. This year's event will be held at the Brewery in east London on 23 August. 'Incredible year' Chicago band Fall Out Boy have three nominations for best album, video and international band.

My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way showed up over the weekend at Comic-Con 2007, the massive fanboy fest held annually in San Diego. Way was at the event to unveil The Umbrella Academy, a new six-part comic book series he's written, with the first issue due out on September 19th. Way told MTV.com that he's always loved and wanted to write comics, saying, "I've been wanting to write one. It's fun. I think I can say something I can't necessarily say with my music. But also, I wanted to get people into comic shops, people who normally wouldn't (go), because I love the medium. 31/07/2007 Spin.com are reporting that "Gerard Way is trying his hand at comic book writing with the new series, Umbrella Academy". They said: "My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way has taken up a unique side project: writing comic books. The singer signed on with Dark Horse comics to produce a new series called Umbrella Academy, about Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a "world-renowned scientist and inventor, intrepid adventurer, successful entrepreneur, champion cricketer, and closet space-alien," and his seven super-human kids, according to Dark Horse. In the comics, the kids need to "learn to get past their spectacularly dysfunctional childhoods" to save the world.
