Rolling Stone posed six questions to My Chemical Romance singer/comic book artist/proud Jersey boy Gerard Way. He professed his love of Joan of Arc, squids and Ziggy Stardust (and discussed what it was like being “touched in the head”).

What’s the most rock-star thing you’ve ever done?
That’s really hard to come up with. I haven’t done anything rock star. I walked into a club in Canada with sunglasses on. I thought it would be cool. It was a total dick move.

What was your favorite album at age fourteen?
Live After Death by Iron Maiden. Easily. I listened to that thing for five years straight. That’s one of the things that really made me want to be a live performer.

Both bands are up for best single and album, while My Chemical Romance is also in the running for best video and best international band.

The St Albans-based outfit said it was "great to be nominated again".

Way was at the event to unveil The Umbrella Academy, a new six-part comic book series he's written, with the first issue due out on September 19th. Spin.com are reporting that "Gerard Way is trying his hand at comic book writing with the new series, Umbrella Academy".

They said: "My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way has taken up a unique side project: writing comic books. The singer signed on with Dark Horse comics to produce a new series called Umbrella Academy, about Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a "world-renowned scientist and inventor, intrepid adventurer, successful entrepreneur, champion cricketer, and closet space-alien," and his seven super-human kids, according to Dark Horse. In the comics, the kids need to "learn to get past their spectacularly dysfunctional childhoods" to save the world.

Spin explain that the publisher also said: "When Gerard came to us, we were obviously excited and receptive to him doing comics," said Dark Horse's Jeremy Atkins. "Once we saw it, we were totally sold." The first series of Umbrella Academy will make its debut in…

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has announced the release date for the first issue of his comic book series, The Umbrella Academy. First promised in July of 2006, the series will be published by maverick publisher Dark Horse, home of Hellboy and Conan which became films, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Terminator and Star Wars which took the opposite route.

Gerard described the storyline to MTV: A closet space alien has adopted seven extraordinary children to save the world. He never tells [them] from what. He's a really bad father, and he dies of a heart attack, and they are all kind of stuck to figure out the rest."
