  Evanescence's Amy Lee loves her some Halloween, which, if you ask us, is pretty convenient given she has a voice that could wake the dead. To that end, Lee, who just lent her pipes to a version of 'Sally's Song' on the 'Nightmare Revisted' soundtrack, and who is currently in the throes of writing new songs of her own, sat down with Spinner to reveal her Top Five favorite horror films just in time for the holiday.

1. 'Nightmare Before Christmas': I have to watch this movie at Halloween, and the fact that I get to be a part of it [on the 'Nightmare Revisited' soundtrack], as an uber-fan, is great. I watch this movie with my family every year. When this movie came out it, inspired me creatively. I was a big art nerd.

By BRUCE LEE SMITH/VALLEY MORNING STAR   Courtesy photo   Judging by the dramatic music and videos for rock band Evanescence, you would think singer Amy Lee is this ethereal, gothic presence, gliding across the planet and alternating between ennui and angst.

But nothing could be farther from the truth, she said. And on the phone she sounds almost, dare I say it, chipper.

“I’m just like anybody else,” she said. “I have my ups and downs.”

Whereas her music is full of pain and longing, Lee comes across as energetic and intelligent with a good sense of humor.

“The music is like therapy to me,” she said. “I get it all out in my songs.”

Lee returned to work last week after Evanescence took a month off from touring in support of its second album “The Open Door.”

Multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning alternative rock band Evanescence will perform on Halloween night, Oct. 31, at Dodge Arena in Hidalgo. Tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m.

The band's latest album "The Open Door," released in October 2006, debuted at the top of the Billboard charts selling more than 447,000 copies in its first week of release, according to SoundScan.com. The band's 2003 major-label debut "Fallen" spent more than 40 weeks on the Billboard top ten and has sold more than 14 million copies, aided by the hit single "Bring Me To Life."

The Arkansas-based band is known for merging its guitar-heavy goth metal sound with piano balladry and vocalist Amy Lee's forceful pipes.
